My Own Utopian Experiment #21: See myself in other’s stories
It is already time for July book review. I read this memoir in two days. It was very honest and good. While we live different lives, human experiences are not that different. It overlaps quite a bit. I can relate to other’s stories and see myself in it. It is comforting for me knowing that I am not alone and they are not alone in the ups and downs. At the end, we are all in this together. We should stick together. It is a nice reminder.
It is about a difficult childhood. I am not going to write in details since it would spoil the reading. We all have our own junk. A lot of times, you do not need anything else but come in peace with it. We can’t wipe out experiences and memories. Being in a good term with it is sometimes all we can do. This book shows her process of being in the good term with what she has been going thru since a child all the way up to age 37 where the book stops. You will witness it is never a linear process but with lots of ups and downs with twists, heartbreaks, nightmares, tears and hopes. The most important thing is that the peace and lots of hopes are at the end of the journey if you decided to take it. Even though my childhood is different from hers, I was able to relate to her. We are all humans. We connect heart to heart. Again, we are not that different.
I loved how she puts the chapters. It is by her age from age one to 37. I did not realize what the chapter number meant until finishing 2nd chapter. Knowing this will make the story more interesting. I know a couple people tend to skip epilogue if they feel like it. You should not skip it for this book. I felt the chapter 37 suddenly ended without closure I needed for the story. The epilogue is the closure about how it ends and why she wrote the book. I was not able to keep the book down and read the whole book in 2 days. Sharing is caring. I love to share a good book once a month. Sending my love as always. Enjoy your summer!
