Don’t Follow Your Heart but Let Your Heart Roam Free

Introduce My Own Utopian Experiment in 2024

Have you heard of utopian experiments? It originated from ancient philosophers like Plato, Socrates and many others. Americans have their own versions too. The idea is cool, building the ideal world to live happily and ever after. It failed. Otherwise, we would be living utopian lifestyles whatever that means to you. What they did was building communities with like-minded people. There were leaders and followers. I wish I can say it could be possible but I think it failed for a very simple reason. Everyone wants different things. Their priorities are different even though they want the same.

I trigged me that I want to do utopian experiment just for me in year 2024. What I want is living with contentment and knowing myself. My days are full of good people and meaningful activities along with art of doing nothing. Quiet, peaceful and meaningful days! I am the sole designer of my life to create things based on my values. It is work in progress!

It is hard to be on a rewarding journey without knowing where I am going. Everything starts from an honest answer to an honest question. What do I really want? What would bring joy today? I should be able to answer this daily basis from little to big things without setting limits, excuses and even judgments. I am referring to pure enjoyments instead of being too useful, practical and effective. It takes a bit of practice to ask yourself in a very self-centered way without considering anyone, anything else or other obligations. Please make sure not to block any ideas. Let your mind daydreaming and let your thoughts guide you. Please include the ones that seem too big and even unrealistic. Do not dismiss. Size does not matter here. Your soul is speaking to you. We all have inner wisdom and it will speak to us if we let it. We can be very creative and do in very doable steps until it becomes so natural. These little steps accumulate and give us the muscles we need to make the big things happen. Let your heart roam and see what happens! Write them down and make it as your bucket list without rushing or planning too much. We will get there one by one in our own speed. Knowing what you want is the first step and it is half done.

I recently kept daydreaming about being in Rome. Don’t ask why. I only have vague ideas on why. I have never had a plan to go there even. I want to taste authentic pasta, pizza, pastries and coffee. Of course, wine is on my mind too. When I daydream about being in Rome, I am not even traveling places. I am sort of living there in a small town. I go to street markets and restaurants without any signs or menu on the back streets that only locals go. In my imagination, I once order oxtail (I am not even a big fan), pasta, bread with house-made wines. I go to café with pastries, coffee and eat gelato three times a day. I probably gain 10 lbs per week with all that pasta, wine and deserts if it is happening in near future. If you personally know me, you would laugh at this. I am a such a bad international traveler. I get lost hundred times in a day. Because I know I am prone to do this, I get nervous when I do not have enough info on hand especially where English is not spoken. It tires me out or worry up to the point that I do not enjoy the day. I am someone who got on a wrong bus without realizing until it stopped at the destination, whose purse got stolen, got lost so bad that I no longer knew which direction sun would be setting. I still do not even have a real plan to go to Rome yet but I must crave some of these experiences. While daydreaming about Rome, my local library had a book sale. I came across a Rome traveling guide book so I bought it home at a very cheap price. I wonder if the law of attraction is working. It meant to be mine! Maybe one day, I will go when the time is right and everything feels good. Especially, I have my confidence up to do it with my family.

Just to satisfy my daydreaming, I cooked oxtail (I am not a big fan but it was in my daydreaming) and bought a bottle of Italian red wine along with cheese from Italy. During one dinner, I got my daydream came true. There are certain things that I miss about being in Europe. Lots of things made with stones such as buildings, streets, statues and especially small and big fountain squares. I loved their fountains so artistic master pieces, so openly displayed in public part of garden or squares. I wish I have one of those near by me (not a chance in IL, US) that I walk around it, pass by, meet someone there and read a book. You get the idea where I am going with my imagination, right? Don’t follow your heart but let it and roam free. I hope my friends here join me having fun with the journey with your own ideas. You can do it in a creative and doable ways like my oxtail, wine and cheese from Italy without getting lost hundred times a day.

P.S. For the first time, I skipped two weeks since I started my blog. I was not having not-so-beginning year with being sick and got a really bad news from a friend. I hope everyone had better ones than mine. If anyone had unfortunate events year-end or beginning, don’t be so sad. In my culture, you block all year worth of badness with one when it happens at the end of year or beginning of the year. How positive! Right? You may say it is superstition but it may be that way when you believe it. I learned my lesson to prepare for unfortunate events more thoroughly for my blog. Take care! Thanks for understanding too. Thanks for people who sent hello during the down time. Sending my love

  1. I love daydreaming. It makes me happy when I do so that I can live in a place where I want to without worrying about anything. I will have to see what I can transfer to my present life to satisfy my daydream as you cooked your oxtail!

    1. Enjoy! We need to dream first to make anything happen. Let your imagination taking you to anywhere it desire. Set your heart free to want things! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
