Today is Giving Tuesday! It is a global campaign for people around the world to use their individual power of generosity to support their communities. Contributions can happen in any forms, funds, volunteering, talents, skills and many others. Holiday season and Giving Tuesday are simply nice excuses to do it. It can be a fun activity to do as a group and do something great at the same time. You also can meet great people. This year, I decide to do my holiday season rituals together with my boy. My son is still young so the options are limited but here’re what we did so far. I hope I can share more creative ones in near future! I hope this inspires you to do one with your kids or/and family. You may be already doing it. Share yours. Sharing is caring!
- Volunteer at Feed My Starving Children
I learned this organization thru a school event. It is awesome and quite fun to do it. You simply book your time about 1.3 hour and show up. There’s a simple orientation, watching a couple video and pack meals. When we went, they had Manna Pack which consist of rice, veggie, protein and vitamin which are all in dried forms. You put a scoop of each ingredient, measure the weights and seal the bags. They put them in a box and ship them to hungry kids. There are 6-8 people per table working as a group. Just one hour and 30 mins, you can contribute to feed starving children. They need food first to live, food first to learn, food first to be disciplined, food first to dream and food first to be children. You can donate the money or/and putting your time to pack the meals. Manna Pack has such a special meaning. Manna means bread from heaven. Manna Pack is the meal from heaven made by your hands. What a nice way of spending 1.5 hour and have some bonding time with great people! Check their website to find out if there’s any local events on their website, https://www.fmsc.org/get-involved/volunteer/. I am sure you can find similar ones like food banks and homeless shelters near you if they are not located in your area.
2. Drop a bag of food donation
This is so easy to do. In my area, there’s an area to donate food at one of city buildings. When I go to their website or social media, it usually tells me what items are low and much needed. Holiday seasons they usually ask flour, cans of veggies, jams and oils. Other people need similar things you buy. You can buy extra to donate. During usual times, they prefer any dry food like cereals, cans of veggies, pastas, tomato/pasta sauce, etc. We made a bag together and drop it off together. We had fun doing it on one of no-school days.
3. Libraries, local city offices, schools and many others have designated boxes for donations
There are so many popup donation boxes near holiday seasons to accepts socks, hats, jackets, Christmas gifts and many others. We found a box to donate kids’ books this year at a local library. What a good idea! Of course, we have so many books at home and donated some. Someone else can enjoy them. My boy carefully selected books for other kids. I am very proud of him to share things he has.
Thank you for reminding us of giving. Some great ways to help our children think of those who are in need!
You are more than welcome. thanks for being a regular reader and sharing your thoughts. My child is still young so the options are limited but there are some I can do with him. IT is a fun activity as well as a family. I will share more creative ones in near future. the core of my blog is building the life we want TOGETHER. Those in need are part of this as well. It was a reminder more for myself.
